How to Plan
a Great Second Life:
Why not live fully every day of your extra 30 years?
Ship Date: January 1, 2004
6" x 9"
The “Baby Boomers” have hit 50! More shocking, of all the humans ever on earth to reach 65, half are living today! They are the market for this book, plus anybody else 40-55 or older wondering “what to do with the rest of their life.” (Of course, even tots are potential buyers: they will face that question too!) Surprisingly, there is no step-by-step planning book (or any planning book) for the “extra 30 years”—the “gift” years we get, the difference in life expectancy in 1900 (48) and today (78). This is it!
Major Selling Points
This is an easy-to-use, straightforward, fun guide for singles (or couples) to use to (1) review where they are in midlife: skills, money, and health, (2) create a “dream list,” (3) prioritize and time-peg those dreams, (4) put them into doable action steps, (5) factor in the resources they have to fund them, and (6) put their Action Plan into motion! An ideal buy for seniors, a gift to or for other seniors, libraries, all senior service groups, and churches.
Gordon Burgett’s How to Plan a Great Second Second Life: Why not live fully every day of your extra 30 years? introduces and explains the concept of a “great second life,” gives readers permission to create just that for themselves, then offers a set of planning tools (mostly fill-in graphs, charts, and lists) that help the reader organize now and live their life to its fullest later. The book is 8.5 x 11” and paper bound to facilitate using or copying and later completing the full-page forms.
Burgett has published 23 books and 1,700+ articles. His earlier books focused on his area of expertise: information dissemination—mainly writing, niche publishing, marketing, and speaking. In 1997, Gordon began Agemasters, a service to acknowledge and encourage people to run, walk, cycle, swim, or wheel their age in miles or kilometers. Burgett speaks nationwide about those subjects and “How to Plan a Great Second Life.”

Why We Like It
Frankly, it makes so much sense, it’s hard to see why most of those slipping into midlife won’t rush to the store to buy it. For the same reason, it’s a great gift. And it is non-controversial, as useful in the sectarian and religious worlds as by government agencies and anybody anywhere. Who planned their first life? And given a way to do it, who doesn’t want to plan their last days so they can squeeze out every last drop of fun, joy, and worth?
Already said: anybody who is getting old, is old, or may someday age.
